citygirrrl about town...

losing it

citygirrrl is working in boston at present, after a long break from the travelling.  and added to that has been a flying visit to oklahoma (time spent travelling: 12 hours.  time spent in crappy hotel: 8 hours.  time spent in the office: 6 hours.  go figure).

there was a wee glitch at the start of the trip when i lost my iPod.  it wasn't anywhere to be found in my hotel room or in my office on my first morning there, so i assumed the worst.  a call to the airline confirmed it wasn't in their lost property and i gathered together the insurance claim forms.

mid-afternoon the deities of lost trinkets stepped in; one of the techies had found my iPod in an office used briefly when i arrived (tired, groggy from the flight, and straight into an afternoon of meetings).  how grateful i was to be reunited with it!   

in all the travelling over the last couple of years, citygirrrl has never previously lost so much as a toothbrush.  i must be over-tired and losing my marbles, because now i need the deities of lost trinkets to really step it up a gear...

the beautiful silver bracelet which spacemonkey bought me for my birthday slipped free of its clasp at some point in the airport.  i realised at the start of what was to be a long and tearful flight to oklahoma.

i'm missing spacemonkey so badly, and now i'm missing my gorgeous bracelet as well.  airmiles are never, ever compensation enough for days like these.

big girls don't cry

the great thing about repressing one's feelings is that after a while, they damp down all together.  as a great thinker once said - "if i lose the highs, at least i'm spared the lows", and a year ago citygirrrl could not have agreed more. 

everything is different now, of course.  i have a spacemonkey all of my very own and have learned, under his patient and gentle tutelage, to experience the full gamut of emotions.  and this has been wonderful - smiling with my teeth showing, laughing lots, not being so cynical all the time; experiencing love, trust and faith.

there is , of course, always a flip side.  i've always been very self-controlled, so i find myself rather ashamed at my new-found soft centre.  particularly so when it comes to saying goodbye to spacemonkey at the end of our always-too-short weekends together and suddenly i am sobbing, like a little girl again.

i guess for the wonderful highs, the intensity of absolute happiness, a little emotional incontinence is a small price to pay.

healthy holidays

allow citygirrrl to present her newly-developed and provably successful holiday diet.  simply follow the instructions below and you too could tone up and lose pounds!!

1.  go on holiday to a resort where virtually no one speaks english, and take a big pile of podcasts.  in your desperation to hear your native tongue and occupy yourself in your linguistic isolation, you can pound up and down the beach with your headphones on - preferably walking just in the water - burning wondrous inches off your upper thighs.

2.  go on holiday to a resort where food hygiene is questionable, contract some form of pernicious and long-lasting stomach upset - watch the pounds fall off!!

citygirrrl is, if nothing else, lean and tanned after her week away. 

firstly, i'm well aware of what a princess i am.  i should be grateful to be sufficiently privileged to have a summer holiday at all (never mind two).  but then again - i work hard to afford treats like this, and it's very disappointing when they turn out not really to be treats at all.

the photos are up - and by all accounts the place was gorgeous.  blue skies, warm seas, lovely long sandy beach.  and the little beach bungalows were delightful - from the outside... 

the "natural ventilation" equated to open windows and slatted panels throughout, great for letting the air circulate and also perfect for allowing strong, chilly evening winds to distribute copious quantities of the beach throughout the interior.  still, the sand inside gave the spiders and ginormous ants something to play in...

it wasn't all bad.  on the upside, i am finally back to my fighting weight!  there were a select few anglophones; i have made new friends.  and a special mention must go out to james at reception - he's been working in the kemer resort the last two years i've been there and yet again took wonderful care of me.

but hardest of all, i missed spacemonkey very much indeed.  not really much fun without him to share things with, although i took vicarious delight in his alaskan adventure through his daily text updates.  finally this weekend, after nearly a month apart, we'll be reunited.  and it can't come around quickly enough for me.
