spacemonkey called this morning, all the way from alaska (where, confusingly, it was still last night). he saw some moose (mooses? meese?) yesterday and was hoping to see some grizzly bears and wolves today. how exciting!
citygirrrl was very glad to hear from him - he's out in the tundra somewhere with no mobile signal so communication is limited, especially next week with an 11-hour time difference separating us. this has been the first time since we got together that we've gone more than 24 hours without speaking to each other.
back in the day, the receptionists at work would be the first people i spoke to on a morning (sometimes since leaving the office the previous day). on one occasion it was only upon attempting to greet the receptionist that i discovered i had lost my voice. and i didn't think there was anything unusual about that at all.
for thousands upon thousands of people in this city, it isn't a matter of "working to live" or "living to work" - office life is just how life is. it pays the bills, but modern life is rubbish.
